Ularth & Mezhukkupuratti – an integral part of Kerala cuisine are mostly prepared using vegetables. Onions and coconut pieces may or may not be added. What differentiates them both from thoran dishes is the absence of scrapped coconut. But one thing is common in both. In both these dishes, vegetables are sauted or cooked till water content is fully absorbed. Mostly Ularth dishes are a little more spicy, where more chillies are added, sometimes spices too and often prepared with meat and sea food items like oyster. Mezhukkupuratti is a pure vegetarian side dish, mostly prepared using fresh vegetables, sometimes a combination of two or more. Okra, long beans, jackfruit seeds, Chinese potato etc are some of the most common Mezhukkupuratti dishes made in Kerala kitchen, and they go well with boiled rice. Through this page, I shall give links to a few Ularth & Mezhukkupuratti (Veg) Side Dishes.
