Unakka Chemmeen – Padavalanga (Dried Prawns) Thoran


Ingredients for Unakka Chemmeen-Padavalanga Thoran:

  1. Dried prawns heated and cleaned – 1 cup
  2. Coconut oil – ½ cup
  3. Mustard seeds – 2 small spoons
  4. Green chillies split into 4 – 1 cup
  5. Ginger finely chopped – 3 small spoons
  6. Garlic chopped – 2 small spoons
  7. Shallots finely chopped – ½ cup
  8. Curry leaves – as needed
  9. Green mango cut into pieces – 2 cups
  10. Snake guard cut into pieces – ½ cup
  11. Coconut scrapped – 4 cups
  12. Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  13. Fenugreek powder – ½ tsp
  14. Salt – as required

How to prepare Unakka Chemmeen – Padavalanga Thoran?

  1. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds. When it sputters add ginger, green chillies, garlic, shallots and curry leaves. Sauté well.
  2. When it’s sauted add snake guard pieces along with green mango pieces. Add scrapped coconut and prawns as well.
  3. Add turmeric powder, fenugreek powder and salt along with half cup water and cook for 10 minutes in low flame.
  4. Your Unakka Chemmeen – Padavalanga Thoran is ready to serve. It is a best combo for boiled rice and tapioca.
