
Ingredients for Unakka Chemmeen – Kovakka Ularth (Dried Prawns – Ivy Gourd Ularth):
- Dried prawns – ½ cup
- Ivy gourd – ½ kg
- Green chillies – 6, cut lengthwise
Chilli powder – 1 small spoon
Turmeric powder – ½ small spoon
Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
Salt – For taste
Pot tamarind (Kudam puli) – 2 pieces
Coconut (not too ripe) – ½ (sliced into thin pieces) - Oil – 3 big spoons
- Garlic – 5 cloves, crushed
Shallots -5, crushed - Red chilli powder – ½ small spoon
Turmeric powder – ½ small spoon
How to prepare Unakka Chemmeen – Kovakka Ularth (Dried Prawns – Ivy Gourd Ularth)?
- Clean dried prawns and keep aside.
- Cut the ivy gourd lengthwise.
- Cook prawns and ivy gourd along with ingredients no: 3, sprinkling a little water.
- Heat oil in a pan and sauté ingredients no: 5.
- Add the powders and fry again.
- Add cooked prawns-ivy gourd mixture and fry till the contents turn dry.
