Puzhukk Nercha of Nedunkunnam Church


Nedukunnam is an agricultural village of Kottayam. Puzhukku Nercha of St.John de Baptist Church is famous for Puzhukk Nercha. Let me give you its recipe. 

 

Ingredients for Puzhukk Nercha:

  1. Tapioca – 1 kg
  2. Kaachil kizhangu (Yam) – ¼ kg
  3. Chembu kizhangu (Colacasia) – 100 gm
  4. Raw banana – 100 gm
  5. Shallots – 15
  6. Ginger – 1 inch piece
  7. Garlic – 5 cloves
  8. Green chillies – 6
  9. Chilli powder – 2 big spoons
  10. Coriander powder – 1.5 big spoons
  11. Turmeric powder – 1 small spoon
  12. Masala powder -2 small spoons
  13. Meat – 150 gm
  14. Coconut oil – 2 big spoons
  15. Ghee – 1 big spoon

Method of preparation of Puzhukk Nercha:

  1. Wash all the tubers and banana, remove their skin and make them to small pieces.
  2. Cook meat adding salt.
  3. Apply a little oil in a tawa (uruli/pan) and add all powders mixed with water. Crush shallots, ginger, garlic and green chillies as well and add to boiling water.
  4. When water boils well, add half amount of tapioca and remaining tubers and banana.
  5. Spread meat on the top and masala powder and stir well.
  6. Add remaining tapioca and close it with a tight lid.
  7. Cook it well and mix it again and add coconut oil and ghee. Put the flame off.
