Rice Flakes, known as Aval/Poha in South India is a flattened/beaten form of parboiled rice used in South Indian Cuisine, and also for Hindu religious rituals. They can be eaten raw or toasted with ghee and jaggery or simply fry and add to dishes. Mostly it’s taken as sweet, adding coconut, jaggery/sugar, ghee and sesame seeds. It’s also used to prepare main course breakfast dishes like Upma, Appam etc. Payasam, drinks, mixture etc are a few more common rice flakes recipes.
