Namitha Pramod – Popular actress of Malayalam cinema with hits like ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ and ‘Adi Kapyare Kootamani’ to her credit

Namitha Pramod is a popular and successful film actress of Malayalam cinema, with several hit films to her credit. She has also done a few Telugu and Tamil films to her credit. Sound Thoma, Vikramadithyan, Law Point, Amar Akbar Anthony, Role Models, Pullipulikalum Aattinkuttiyum and Adi Kapyare Kootamani are some of her popular movies. She has worked with almost every popular Malayalam hero of present generation, including Fahadh Fasil, Dulquer Salman, Nivin Pauley etc. Her screen chemistry with Dileep and Kunchakko Boban was also appreciated.

Namitha Pramod started her acting career through television as a child actress

She was born in 1996 in Thiruvananthapuram into a business family. She completing her schooling from capital city, and also pursued her graduation in Sociology at St. Teresa’s College, Kochi. She started her acting career as a child artist in year 2007, through TV series, Vellankanni Mathavu, where she portrayed Mathavu. She was later seen in TV shows – Amme Devi, Ulladakkam, Ente Manasaputhri etc. She started appearing in TV shows while studying in class 7.

Malayalam film Traffic marked her big screen debut

Namitha Pramod got her first break to big screen through Traffic in 2011, where she played the crucial role of dying daughter. She appeared in a magazine cover, and was spotted by director Rajesh Pillai who offered her the role. In 2012 she received her first lead role through Puthiya Theerangal opposite Nivin Pauley, and she played a fisherwoman. The movie was not commercially successful. She came to limelight after the huge success of her third film, Sound Thoma, opposite Dileep. She rose to the fame of popular actresses after this, and acting roles from different languages came pouring in.

She worked in Telugu and Tamil movies too

After the success of Sound Thoma, she worked opposite Kunchakko Boban in Pullipulikalum Aattinkuttiyum, and the movie fared average at box office. Ormayundo Ee Mukham, Law Point, Chandrettan Evideya, Amar Akbar Anthony, Adi Kapyare Kootamani, Role Models etc also got noticed. 2015 turned to be lucky year to Namitha, where she had three releases, and all of them were commercial hits – Chandrettan Evideya, Amar Akbar Anthony and Adi Kapyare Kootamani. All these movies belong to comedy genre. In fact she mostly appeared in comedy and masala entertainers.

In 2014 she marked her Tamil debut with En Kaadhal Pudhithu, and later appeared in Priyadarshan’s Nimir opposite Udhayanidhi Stalin. The movie was the remake of Malayalam cult classic, Maheshinte Prathikaram. She marked her Telugu debut with Chuttalabbai in 2016 and she was paired with Aadi for this entertainer. She mostly worked in Malayalam movies till now.

Her roles in Adi Kapyare Kootamani, Puthiya Theerangal, Amar Akbar Anthony, Vikramadithyan and Pullipulikalum Aattinkuttiyum have won her a few awards and nominations. Al Mallu, Margamkali and Kammara Sambhavam are some of her recent works.

Namitha Pramod – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. Actor Kumarakam Raghunath is her paternal uncle. Her father is younger to him.

2. She joined film industry while studying at school, and earned recognition and success at a very young age. She did 20 movies in a short interval of time since 2011.

3. She played a classical dancer in Pullipulikalum Aattinkuttiyum. But in real life, she is not formally trained in classical dance forms. She learnt a few steps from Saranya Mohan’s dance school, as a part of preparation of this role. It took only 4 days.

4. She worked with Kunchakko Boban right from her debut film Traffic (though there was no combination scene), followed by Pullipulikalum Aattinkuttiyum and Law Point, during her early phase in Malayalam cinema.

5. She did maximum movies with Dileep. She turned a popular face of Malayalam cinema, after she worked with Dileep in Sound Thoma. Later they worked together in Chandrettan Evideya, Kammara Sambhavam and Villali Veeran. They signed their 5th project together – Professor Dinkan, which is currently in pre-production stage.

6. She wants to retire from films after marriage and dreams to set up a business after that. She wants to stay at home and look after her kids – her future plans.
