Kumarakam is famous for houseboats and traditional fish dishes served in boats.

Ingredients for Kumarakam Fish Curry:
- Freshwater fish – 1/2 kg
- Ginger – 1 piece
- Garlic -8
- Green chillies – 5
- Shallots – 100 gm
- Chilli powder – 4 tablespoons
- Turmeric powder – 1 pinch
- Coconut oil – 4 tablespoons
- Fenugreek powder – 1 tablespoon
- Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
- Kudampuli (Gambooj) – 4
- Salt – as needed
- Coriander powder – 2 tablespoons
Method of preparation of Kumarakam Fish Curry
- Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds.
- Add ingredients 2-5 and cook well.
- Add ingredients 6-10 along with a little water.
- Cook it for a few minutes till it becomes dry.
- Add kudampuli, salt and sufficient water needed for cooking.
- Boil it for a while, and add fish pieces.
- When it’s cooked, and the water is almost absorbed, you can see a layer of oil on its surface.
- Add curry leaves and turn the flame off
