Aamras

Aamras is a traditional dish made using well ripen mangoes in Indian subcontinent. The word is derived from Sanskrit word ‘Amra’, which means ‘mango’ and ‘Ras’ which means juice. Aamras is made in different ways, and often native flavours are also added to it. Mango pulp is common in all recipes, while other ingredients may slightly vary. Here I give one such recipe of Aamras.

Aamras is also prepared during festivals and various cultural occasions. In Gujarati homes, as well as Marathi and Marwari culture, it is prepared during festivities. Aamras is also a part of Rajasthani cuisine. Very often it’s served with chapati and poori too.

Ingredients for Aamras:

1. Mango fruit – 4

2. Sugar – 2 big spoons

Cardamom powder – 1 small spoon

Dry ginger powder – ½ small spoon

1. Remove skin of mango and cut into small pieces.

2. Add ingredients no: 2 and make a smooth paste in a mixer.

3. Transfer Aamras to serving bowls and place in refrigerator for a while.
