Chemmeenitta Pachakari Theeyal recipe

Ingredients for Chemmeenitta Pachakari Theeyal (Vegetable Theeyal with Prawns):

  1. Coconut – ½, grated
  2. Shallots – 3
  3. Chilli powder – 1 big spoon
    Coriander powder – 4 small spoons
    Fenugreek powder – ½ small spoon
  4. Coconut oil – 50 milli
  5. Mustard – ½ small spoon
  6. Onion – 1, cut into small square pieces
    Shallots – 10, chopped
    Drumstick – 1
    Potato – 2, cut into small square pieces
    Okra – 4, cut into small pieces
    Green chillies – 3, chopped
    Curry leaves – As needed
  7. Tamarind – Gooseberry-sized, soaked in a little warm water
    Cleaned prawns – ½ kg
    Salt – As needed
  8. Tomato – 2, chopped
    Curry leaves – 2 stems

How to prepare Chemmeenitta Pachakari Theeyal (Vegetable Theeyal with Prawns)?

  1. Heat a pan and bring it to a low flame.
  2. Fry the coconut along with the shallots.
  3. When it’s done, add the powders and sauté for 3 more minutes on a low flame.
  4. Turn the flame off and allow it to cool a little bit.
  5. Make a paste without adding water.
  6. Heat oil in a curry pan and sputter mustard seeds.
  7. Add ingredients no: 6 and sauté for 10 minutes.
  8. Add coconut paste along with sufficient water and continue cooking.
  9. When it’s 3/4th done, add cleaned prawns, tamarind water and sufficient water.
  10. Stir the contents well and close the lid.
  11. Cook the contents, and when it’s done, add tomato and curry leaves.
  12. Boil the contents well and turn the flame off. Serve hot.
