Ulli Murukk (Onion Murukk/Shallots Murukk)

Ingredients for Ulli Murukk (Onion Murukk/Shallots Murukk):

1. Black gram dal – 1/2 cup

    Green gram dal – ½ cup

2. Vanaspati – 1 big spoon

    Palappam powder (fine course rice flour) – 3 cups

3. Shallots made to a paste – ¼ cup

    Garlic – 3 cloves, made to a paste

    Asafoetida powder – A small spoon

    Salt – For taste

4. Sesame seeds – ½ big spoon

    Cumin seeds – ¼ small spoon

5. Oil – For frying

How to prepare Ulli Murukk (Onion Murukk/Shallots Murukk)?

1. Add 4 cups of water to black gram and green gram, and pressure cook for 10-12 minutes.

2. When pressure drops to zero, blend it well using a spoon or ladle.

3. Add Vanaspati and flour little by little and prepare the dough.

4. Finally add ingredients no: 3, followed by sesame seeds and cumin seeds and mix the contents well.

5. Put a little of dough inside sevanazhi (idiyappam maker). Use the mould of murukk.

6. Heat oil and press the dough into hot oil.

7. Fry your onion murukk till it turns crispy.

8. Strain excess oil.
