Simran Sehgal – The female voice featured in Sanam’s ‘Yeh Raaten Yeh Mausam’

Simran Sehgal is a celebrity singer best known for cover versions of Bollywood hits. She has also released a few singles. She shot to fame after she was featured in the popular version of Sanam band’s Yeh Raaten Yeh Mausam. The song went viral over net and registered millions of views. The original duet was sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhosle for Dilli Ka Thug. Rhim Jhim Gire Sawan, Tere Bina Zindagi Se, Tere Bin Nai Lagta, Chupke Se, Sanu Ik Pal Chen Na Aave, Sun Saathiya etc are other famous songs of Simran. She has been a part of TV shows and music programs in Kerala, apart from being associated with a music band.

Simran Sehgal is of Punjabi origin and is nicknamed ‘Nimmi’. She was born in Pune, Maharashtra. Her family has roots in music and her father is a singer who initiated her to the world of classical music when she was only six. Though initially she was not interested in music, slowly she became a part of it, and turned a full-fledged singer. Now language is not a barrier to her. She started uploading cover versions of Bollywood classic hits on YouTube and got noticed. After she got opportunity to sing with the celebrated Sanam band, she shot to instant fame. Her online music videos caught the attention of Malayalam music composer Sunny Vishwanath who invited her to join music shows of Kerala which she accepted. It also helped her to make her debut in Malayalam movies as a playback singer.

1. She was born on an Independence Day.

2. She was born into a business family and also helps her father in family business in Pune.

3. Though known as a singer of Hindi songs, she made her debut as a playback singer in Mollywood in 2016 when she sang the title track of Sambar and two more tracks of the same film.

4. She sang The Sambar Song, Poomkathirukal and its Reprise version for Malayalam film, Sambar.

5. She stayed in Thrissur, Kerala for 1.5 years before she forayed into playback singing. She became a member of a band, Paattukada and also did stage shows at Kochi. It helped her to bag her first Malayalam film project.

6. She was one among the four members of the music band and she also learnt a little bit of Malayalam during her stay in Thrissur.

7. Travelling is her favourite hobby and Shreya Ghoshal – her favourite singer.

8. When she sings the line ‘Sanam main tumhaari rahoongi sada’ for Yeh Ratein Yeh Mausam song, we could see Sanam blushing. It seems the song was made for the duo a few decades back. The duo shared amazing screen chemistry and the song was beautifully filmed too.
