Muringakka – Unakka Konj Theeyal recipe

Ingredients for Drumstick – Dry Prawns Theeyal (Muringakka – Unakka Konj Theeyal):

  1. Coconut oil – As needed
  2. Shallots chopped – ½ cup
    Drumstick – 10-15, cut into pieces
    Curry leaves – A little
  3. Coconut grated – 1 cup
  4. Dry prawns cleaned – ½ cup
  5. Turmeric powder – ¼ small spoon
    Chilli powder – 2 small spoons
    Coriander powder – 1 small spoon
  6. Tamarind – Gooseberry-sized, soaked for half an hour, and squeezed
  7.  Salt – As needed

How to prepare Drumstick – Dry Prawns Theeyal (Muringakka – Unakka Konj Theeyal)?

  1. Heat oil in a vessel and sauté ingredients no: 2.
  2. When shallots are sauteed well, turn off the flame and close the lid.
  3. Heat a little oil in a pan and fry the coconut.
  4. When the water content is fully gone, add dry prawns and mix well.
  5. When the coconut is fried well, add ingredients no: 5 and turn off the flame.
  6. Allow it to cool completely, and then grind to a smooth paste.
  7.  Add coconut-prawn paste to the drumstick.
  8. Also add salt and tamarind water.
  9. Cook the contents till the gravy thickens.
