
Ingredients for Chicken Sambar:
- Chicken – 1 kg
- Coconut oil – 3 big spoons
- Red chillies – 4
- Coriander seeds – 1 small spoon
- Coconut grated – ½ cup
- Onions chopped – 2
- Green chillies – 2, chopped
- Ginger-garlic paste – 1.5 small spoons
- Turmeric powder – ½ small spoon
- Garam masala powder – 1 small spoon
- Salt – As required
- Tomato – 2, big
- Toor dal (Pigeon pea) cooked – ½ kg
- Coconut oil – 1 big spoon
- Mustard– ½ small spoon
Red chillies – 2
Curry leaves – As needed - Coriander leaves – As needed
How to prepare Chicken Sambar?
- Clean the chicken and keep it aside.
- Heat a pan and pour a big spoon of oil, and add red chillies, coriander and coconut.
- Fry it till it turns a light brown colour.
- When the contents cool off, make a fine paste.
- Heat 2 big spoons of oil in a pan and sauté onions and green chillies.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté till its odour changes.
- Add turmeric powder, garam masala powder and salt, and mix the contents well.
- Add tomatoes and sauté again.
- Add gravy and a little water, and let the contents boil.
- Add chicken pieces, close the lid and cook it well.
- When the curry thickens, add the cooked dal and allow the contents to boil well.
- Take off from flame.
- Heat oil and sputter mustard seeds, followed by red chillies and curry leaves.
- Pour this oil into the chicken sambar and serve.
