Raveena Ravi – Famous dubbing artist and lead actress of South Indian Cinema

Raveena Ravi is a popular dubbing artist and voice actor turned film actress, who works in Tamil and Malayalam films. As a dubbing artist she marked her professional career at the age of 2 for Tamil film Thotta Chinungi in 1995 and worked in many movies later. She dubbed for both child artists and lead heroines over the years, and has been a part of several TV ads produced by Rajiv Menon. In 2017 she forayed to acting playing the lead role in 2017 Tamil flick, Oru Kidayin Karunai Manu. The film was a major box office hit, and later she continued her career as an actress and dubbing artist. She is the daughter of famous dubbing artists Sreeja Ravi and Ravindranathan. Her father is also a singer.

Raveena Ravi is of Kannur origin born in 1993. But as her artist parents were settled in Chennai busy with their professional life, she was also born there. Since 1995 she is associated with the dubbing field. She was less than two years old then. She first dubbed for the radio promotion of a Tamil movie. Since the age of 4 she dubbed for ads. She started giving voice for heroines since her graduation days, and her voice became a permanent fixture for Amy Jackson in movies like ‘I’- her 4th film as a dubbing artist for lead heroines. She also dubbed for Amy in 2.0.

As a dubbing artist for lead actresses, she first gave voice to Nayanthara for Bhaskar The Rascal. She has earlier dubbed for child and supporting artists. After the success of her debut flick Oru Kidayin Karunai Manu, she marked her Malayalam debut with Nithya Haritha Nayakan in 2018, and also bagged two projects in Tamil. She dubbed for lead heroines and supporting actresses of Malayalam flicks such as Salt Mango Tree, Jomonte Suvisheshangal, Irupathiyonnaam Noottaandu, Valleem Thetti Pulleem Thetti, Njan Prakashan, Kayamkulam Kochunni, Abhiyude Kadha Anuvinteyum etc.

Raveena Ravi – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. Raveena dubbed for Nayanthara for Bhaskar The Rascal. Interestingly her mother Sreeja Ravi dubbed for almost all movies of Nayanthara till Bodyguard.

2. Sreeja was initially approached for Bhaskar The Rascal, but was later offered to Raveena as recommended by her mother. Nayanthara was also impressed by her voice.

3. Her father Ravi is associated with television, and her mother Sreeja is associated with cinema. Since both are into entertainment field, she too made up her mind to join the same field.

4. Her grandmother too was in the profession of dubbing.

5. She holds a graduation in banking management.

6. She dubbed for Madonna Sebastian for Telugu version of Premam.

7. She had less number for dialogues for her debut film as an actress, Oru Kidayin Karunai Manu, and felt difficult to dub for romance scenes than crying ones.

8. Amy Jackson (I, Theri and 2.0), Samantha (Kaththi), Amyra Dastur (Anegan), Sridivya (Jeeva) etc are some of her major works in Tamil.
