
Ingredients for Prawns – Ivy Gourd Thoran (Chemeen Kovakka Thoran):
- Pot tamarind – 2 cloves
- Coconut grated – 1 cup
Ginger chopped into matchstick-like thin structures – 1 big spoon
Green chillies – 4 or 5, chopped fine
Red chillies – 2, split
Shallots – 50 gm, chopped
Turmeric powder – ½ small spoon
Chilli powder – ½ small spoon
Salt – For taste - Coconut oil – 3 big spoons
- Prawns – ½ kg (remove waste and wash them)
Ivy guard (Kovakka) – 100 gm, cut into lengthy pieces. - Mustard – 1 small spoon
Curry leaves – 2 sprigs
Red chillies – 2, broken
How to prepare Prawns – Ivy Gourd Thoran (Chemeen Kovakka Thoran)?
- Soak the pot tamarind in water.
- Crush ingredients no: 2 together.
- Add 2 big spoons of coconut oil to this coconut gravy and stir well.
- Add ivy gourd and cleaned prawns to it, and manually mix the contents.
- Add the pot tamarind too.
- Heat the remaining oil in an earthen pot and sauté ingredients no: 5.
- Add prawns-ivy gourd mixture to it and sprinkle a little water.
- Close the lid, reduce the flame and cook the contents.
- Water content should be fully absorbed.
- Serve hot.
