Fish Curd Curry (Meen Thayir Curry)

Ingredients for Fish Curd Curry (Meen Thayir Curry):

1. Sardine/Any fish of thick flesh – ½ kg

2. Coconut oil – 2 big spoons

3. Shallots – 5

    Green chillies – 3

    Ginger – 1 piece

    Curry leaves – 2 stems

4. Chilli powder – 2 big spoons

5. Pot tamarind – 2 cloves, soaked in water

    Salt – For taste

    Water – ½ cup

6. Coconut scrapped – ½ cup

    Cumin seeds – ¼ small spoon

    Garlic – 2 cloves

7. Curd – 1 cup, beaten slowly

8. Coconut oil – 1 big spoon

9. Mustard – ½ small spoon

    Shallots – 2, chopped

    Red chillies – 2

    Curry leaves – 1 stem

How to prepare Fish Curd Curry (Meen Thayir Curry)?

1. Clean fish and cut into pieces.

2. Crush ingredients no: 3 together.

3. Heat an earthen pot, add oil and crushed ingredients, and sauté well.

4. Add chilli powder and sauté till raw smell goes out.

5. Add ingredients no: 5 and boil the contents. Water used for soaking pot tamarind can be used.

6. Cook fish in this gravy.

7. Make a fine paste of ingredients no: 6 and mix it with curd.

8. Add this mixture to cooked fish and heat it.

9. Before it boils, take the curry from flame.

10. Temper ingredients no: 9 in coconut oil.

Tip: If you cook fish overnight/evening (water content should be fully absorbed), and add coconut gravy and curd the next day and heat it, your curd fish is more delicious.
