Manjima Mohan – South Indian Film Actress of ‘Oru Vadakkan Selfie’ fame

Majima Mohan plays lead roles in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu films. She started her professional career in the 1990s as a child actress and has also hosted a few kids’ shows on Malayalam television later. ‘Oru Vadakkan Selfie’ in 2015 marked her debut as a lead actress, where she was paired with Nivin Pauley. Since then she has done popular roles across south Indian cinema. She received Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist for Kamal’s Madhuranombarakattu in 2000. Manjima is the daughter of noted Cinematographer Vipin Mohan.

Manjima Mohan was born into a filmy family in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. She was born to cinematographer Vipin Mohan and trained classical dancer Kalamandalam Girija. Following her parents’ footsteps she too chose the field of art and started her career as a child actor of Malayalam movies in 1990s. Kaliyoonjal in 1997 marked her film debut, and she played child artist role in Priyam, Mayilpeelikkavu, Saaphalyam, Sundara Purushan, Thenkashippattanam, Thandavam, Madhuranombarakattu etc. She also appeared in TV ads and was a child anchor in Kiran TV in the mid-2000s.

Following her impressive debut through Oru Vadakkan Selfie in 2015, she was signed by ace director Gautam Menon for a Tamil/Telugu bilingual – Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada/ Sahasam Swasaga Sagipo. The film was shot in two languages with Silambarasan playing the male lead in Tamil and Naga Chaitanya in Telugu, while Manjima played female lead in both. Both the versions garnered positive reviews and Manjima earned huge popularity among south Indian audiences. Sathriyan, Ippadai Vellum, N. T. R. Kathanayakudu, Mikhael, N.T.R: Mahanayakudu and Devarattam are her movie releases later.

Childhood days of Manjima

1. She has been a child celebrity among Malayalam audiences during mid-2000s when she anchored a show on Kiran TV, and also appeared in a few movies and ads.

2. Priyam amd Madhuranombarakattu are her most popular roles as a child actor.

3. Her debut works in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu films as a lead heroine received rave reviews and got positive response from box office.

4. She won Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut – South for Tamil movie, Achcham Enbadhu Madamaiyada.

5. She is a great fan of actress Nayanthara.

6. During her childhood days she used to visit film sets of Sathyan Antikad, where her father worked as cinematographer.

7. The famous “Karimani Maala” scene from the cult classic Thalayanamanthram was inspired from a real life incident related to Manjima’s life. Vipin Mohan, Sathyan Anthikad and Sreenivasan were in the film sets of Thalayanamanthram seriously discussing about a missing element of film script, when Vipin’s wife came there to ask him a Karimani Maala (a traditional chain). Instantly filmmakers added this dialogue to the film script, which became popular.

8. Her mother worked in a single film and Vipin was its cameraman. They fell in love and got married.

9. She is deeply influenced by her father in professional life, and also very much attached to him.
