Karachi Biryani recipe

Ingredients for Karachi Biryani:

  1. Chicken – 1 kg
  2. Basmati rice – 1 kg
  3. Dalda – ½ cup
  4. Onion – 5
  5. Ginger-garlic paste – 3 tablespoons
  6. Chilli powder – 4 tsp
  7. Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
  8. Coriander powder – 2 tsp
  9. Garam masala – ½ tsp
  10. Oil – ½ cup
  11. Cardamom – 3
  12. Cinnamon – 3
  13. Bay leaf (Karuva ila) – 3
  14. Dry plums – 15
  15. Curd – 200 milli
  16. Tomato – 500gm
  17. Green chillies – 4
  18. Potato – 500 gm
  19. Lemon – 3
  20. Coriander leaves – 200 gm
  21. Mint leaves – 200 gm
  22. Salt – as needed

How to prepare Karachi Biryani?

  1. Wash basmati rice thoroughly and soak for a while.
  2. In a round-bottomed vessel, fry the onion till deep brown, adding oil.
  3. Add chicken pieces and ingredients 5-19. Close the lid and cook well
  4. Boil water in another container; add rice, salt, mint and coriander leaves and half-cook the rice.
  5. Drain well when it’s done.
  6. Make beautiful layers using cooked rice and chicken. On top, sprinkle saffron mixed with milk and ghee.
  7. Close the lid tightly and seal using maida. In a hot oven or hearth, bake for 20 minutes and serve hot.
