Normally ada is prepared using banana leaves. But when you make it for Vishu, leaves of ‘Plasu’ tree (Butea monosperma) are used for the same. This tree is known as bastard teak, flame-of-the-forest etc. Here is the recipe of Kani Ada, also known as Vishu Ada.

vishu ada or Kani Ada

Ingredients for Kani Ada:

1. Rice flour – 2 cups

2. Water – ¾ cup

    Salt – For taste

3. Jaggery – 200 gm, peeled

    Coconut – 1.5, scrapped

How to prepare Kani Ada?

1. Heat rice flour slightly.

2. Add salt and water and prepare the thick batter.

3. Its consistency should be enough to spread on the Plasu leaf.

4. Take small balls from the batter and spread them on leaves.

5. Apply water to your palm and spread the batter evenly.

6. Mix jaggery and grated coconut to prepare the filling.

7. Place a little filling in the middle portion of the batter spread on the leaf.
