Gole Baje

Gole Baje is a traditional Udupi dish and a 4 O’ clock snack.

Ingredients for Gole Baje:

1. Maida – 3 cups

    Green chillies chopped fine – 3

    Sugar – 1 small spoon

    Cooking soda – A pinch

    Sour curd – 1 cup

    Coriander leaves – 7 or 8 stalks

    Salt – For taste

2. Oil – For frying

For chutney:

3. Coconut scrapped – 1 cup

    Green chillies – 3

    Tamarind juice – 1 small spoon

    Salt – For taste

4. Oil – 2 small spoons

    Mustard – 1 small spoon

    Red chilli – 1, cut into three parts

How to prepare Gole Baje?

1. Add sufficient water to ingredients no: 1 to prepare thick batter. It should be thicker than idli batter.

2. Make small lemon sized balls from this batter and deep fry in hot oil till they turn golden brown.

3. To prepare chutney, make a fine paste of ingredients no: 3.

4. Heat oil and sputter mustard seeds.

5. Add red chillies and fry it.

6. Add chutney to it, mix it well and put the flame off.

7. Serve Gole Baje with this tasty coconut chutney.
