Top 15 songs of Shah Rukh Khan – Sonu Nigam Combination

Shah Rukh Khan started his film journey in the early 1990s and Kumar Sanu’s voice was mostly used during his early days till late 1990s. Occasionally Udit Narayan and Abhijeet also sang several popular songs for Shah Rukh Khan. In the late 1990s, Shah Rukh-Sonu Nigam combination songs also got noticed and with new millennium when Sonu emerged as the leading male playback singer of Bollywood, most of the romantic tracks of Shah Rukh Khan were recorded in the young and soft voice of Sonu.

While Kumar Sanu’s matured voice suited Khan a lot in the 1990s, Sonu got permanently associated with King Khan’s name in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Only exception was Udit Narayan, who sang some amazing tracks for Khan for the movies – Veer Zaara and Devdas, who owns a series of melodious songs in both these decades. Through this column, let us see 15 extremely popular tracks in Shah Rukh Khan – Sonu Nigam Combination.

1. Title track from Kal Ho Na Ho  No doubt, it’s the best song in Shah Rukh-Sonu combination, and perhaps the career best of Sonu Nigam too, as a playback singer. The song is so powerful to bring tears to one’s eyes. Sonu Nigam won several popular awards including Filmfare award and National award for this heart-touching melody.

3. Khamoshiyaan Gungunane of 1 2 ka 4 This lovely duet featured Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla, and one of the rarest duets sung by Sonu Nigam and melody queen Lata Mangeshkar. Though the movie released in the year 2001 was a huge flop, songs composed by A. R. Rahman were on top charts. The period 2001-2010 was a time period when Sonu Nigam’s voice was regularly associated with King Khan.

4. Tumse Milke Dil Ka of Mein Hoon Naa – Though this song belongs to SRK, this particular dance number also featured Sushmita Sen, Amrita Rao and Zayed Khan, and one of the wonderful tracks of the movie. It’s one of the best works of Anu Malik who received his second Filmfare award for the movie. Definitely it’s their first song which gained attention, and marked a successful beginning of the combination in the year 1997. Sonu Nigam took great effort to sing this song. Known for his low pitch voice, Sonu sang this sad song in high pitch voice. Though this song pictured on Shah Rukh Khan got noticed, Pardes is best known for Kumar Sanu’s romantic songs. Sonu also quoted in interviews that he didn’t get enough attention comparing his efforts behind the song. Music was composed by Nadeem-Shravan, and lyrics are credited to Anand Bakshi.

It has been several years since we got opportunity to hear a song in Shah Rukh – Sonu Nigam combination. As far as I know, “Phir Milenge Chalte Chalte” of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi was the last song of this combination long back in 2008. Correct me if I am wrong. Like the wonderful lyrics for the song, let us hope to hear this magic combination very soon.

As per latest bizz (as on 2017), Sonu Nigam’s Halka Halka song was edited off from Shah Rukh Khan’s recent release, Raees, inviting a few controversies.  It was a duet with Shreya Ghosal.
