Hrithik @Sweet 17

Hrithik in Lakshya

Year 2000. Date 14thJanuary. New century and millennium have just arrived. A movie launching two newcomers as lead pair was released in the first half of the first month of new millennium. Not many even imagined that the lead hero is to become overnight sensation soon after film release, much similar to ‘Aradhana’ magic created by Rajesh Khanna in 1969 though not his debut film. The movie was ‘Kaho Na Pyar Hai’ which proved to be the perfect launch pad of the son of third generation of famous Roshan family – Hrithik Roshan, alongside another newcomer Ameesha Patel, who was by then established as a model. But Hrithik was an unfamiliar face, though he has worked as a child artist earlier.

Yes, it’s exactly 17 years since Hrithik Mania has conquered millions of fans across the world, and he is still the heartthrob of youngsters though he has already passed 40. Whole nation loves to shake legs with his impressive moves, and definitely he gave new dimensions to Bollywood dance shots since his debut.

Hrithik is the biggest star of new millennium

Kyon Chalti Hai Pavan from Kaho Na Pyar Hai

In the recent times, Hrithik is going through his career lows. It’s also true that it took over three years to recreate ‘Kaho Na Pyar Magic’ through Koi Mil Gaya. After his sensational debut he met with a series of flops though many of them met with critical acclaim. Most of those films got noticed for his charming screen presence, amazing screen chemistry with co-star, mesmerizing dance moves and acting skills too. Yet something went missing. He returned in a bang through ‘Koi Mil Gaya’, and there was no turning back after that. Hrithik established as a talented actor through a series of dual roles. Read more.

Many stars have debut silver screen since then. Yet Hrithik remains the best find of the new millennium and the biggest star too.

A series of actors debut Bollywood in the year 2000

Year 2000 was something like carry forward of a baton to a new generation of actors. After the smash debut of Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel through Kaho Na Pyar Hai, one more pair belonging to filmy family debut the same year. Kareena Kapoor belonging to the great Kapoor film family and Abhishek Bachchan belonging to Bacchan family also debut the same year through J. P. Dutta’s Refugee. The popular title track from Kaho Na Pyar Hai

Though Refugee met with critical acclaim it failed to create ripples at box office as it was expected. Thus the star kids’ debut was a flop, though got noticed. However Kareena Kapoor went on to become the biggest female star of new millennium, and no doubt she is the best find of new millennium after Hrithik Roshan. Perhaps an actress who can beat her in popularity is Deepika Padukone, and no one else. In fact Kareena was to debut Bollywood opposite Hrithik Roshan in Kaho Na Pyar Hai, and a few scenes were already shot before she called it quit. She was also seen in one of the frames of movie’s reel too. Quite co-incidence Hrithik and Kareena went on to become biggest stars of Bollywood.

Arjun Rampal made his debut through ‘Pyar Ishq Aur Mohabbat, and south Indian actress Keerthi Reddy too made her Bollywood debut the same year against debutants – Arjun Rampal in ‘Pyar Ishq Aur Mohabbat’  and Abhishek Bachchan in ‘Tera Jaadu Chal Gaya. Both the movies sank without any traces through the melodious songs got noticed. It was much anticipated that Arjun Rampal who was a well-known model then would become the next biggest star of Bollywood after Hrithik. Nothing happened, and Arjun later did several supporting and negative shaded roles as well.

Mohabbatein released in 2000 marked the screen debut of a bunch of youngsters including yet another pair with a filmy background. Uday Chopra, the son of legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra marked an impressive debut with this film, while he was paired opposite another newcomer Shamita Shetty, sibling of Shilpa Shetty in Mohabbatein. Preeti Jhangiani and Kim Sharma also made their Bollywood debut with the same film.

Success streak of Hrithik as a cashable actor

Since his Bollywood debut, Hrithik remained a highly valuable star of Bollywood. After a few flops, he gained momentum through the highly challenging role of Koi Mil Gaya. Though he was a part of Karan Johar’s blockbuster Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Ghum, he couldn’t get much with its success. Fiza, Mission Kashmir, Lakshya turned to be only average grossers while Mein Prem Ki Diwani Hoon, Na Tum Jaano Na Hum, Yadein, Aap Mujhe Acche Lagne Lage and Mujhse Dosti Karoge! were terrible flops. He was even called as ‘Finished!’ by a leading magazine, and counted among one-hit wonders too! But the success of a single movie – Koi Mil Gaya was enough to bring back to where his downfall started, and all was back to the same position once again. Definitely it’s one of the best comebacks ever happened in Bollywood.

Meharbaan Song from Bang Bang

In addition to good looks, physique and dancing caliber, he showed the whole world his power packed debut was not just a magic, and it’s his acting skills which really paid off. Through his performances in Fiza, Lakshya, Koi Mil Gaya, Krish, Agnee Path, Jodhaa Akbar, Dhoom, Zindagi Milega Dobara etc he proved that god has gifted him everything what a Bollywood hero needs, and its best instance is his fan following crowd across the world. He has tried with every kind of roles over the years, and tasted success with almost every piece of experiment.

Most memorable roles of Hrithik till now

Aaja Maahia song from Fiza

Many movies have come and gone. Yet the Hrithik Mania created by Kaho Na Pyar Hai 17 years ago is still in high note. The movie is hugely inspired from Kannada movie – Ratha Sapthami (1986) which was later remade into Tamil as Love Birds in 1996 starring Prabhudeva and Nagma. Prabhudeva too played a dancer in this film, and movie’s second half was altered.

His role as an innocent boy who becomes a scapegoat of terrorism in Fiza, mentally challenged boy in Koi Mil Gaya, Emperor Akbar in Jodha Akbar,  Arjun Saluja in Zindagi Milega Dobara and thief in Dhoom 2 are among his celebrated roles till now. He has also played male lead in commercial hits like Bang Bang, Krish, Krish 3 etc.

Huge expectations with his upcoming flick – Kaabil

Dil Kya Kare song from Kaabil

Though Krish 3 and Bang Bang received mixed responses from critics, both earned big at box office ticket windows. However his last release of 2016 Mohenjo Daro failed to impress both critics and audience alike. Kaabil is the big release of the month, and Hrithik plays a visually challenged hero in this film. One of the most awaited movies of the year, it’s to clash with yet another top movie of the year ‘Raes’ starring Shah Rukh Khan. Already its songs and promos are instant hits, and let’s hope Hrithik’s glorious days will be back after the movie release. He has also witnessed some problems with his family life including divorce and his recent clashes with Kangana Ranaut. Let’s hope everything will be fine, and Hrithik mania starts once again. We, Hrithik fans are just waiting for KNPH magic to return once again after 17 years and sweeps us all as a Tsunami. All the very best, Hrithik.
