Paavakka Theeyal recipe

Ingredients for Bitter Gourd Theeyal (Paavakka Theeyal):

  1.  Bitter gourd – sliced thin lengthwise, 1 cup
  2. Salt – As required
    Tamarind juice – Extracted from gooseberry-sized
    Turmeric powder – ¼ small spoon
  3. Coconut – ½, grated
    Red chillies – 5, chopped
    Coriander – 1 big spoon
    Curry leaves – 1 stalk
    Shallots – 6, chopped

How to prepare Bitter Gourd Theeyal (Paavakka Theeyal)?

  1. Cook ingredients no: 1 and 2, adding a sufficient amount of water.
  2. Fry ingredients no: 3 in a kadai till golden brown.
  3. Make a fine paste of the coconut mixture without adding water.
  4. Add this paste to the bitter gourd and mix well.
  5. When the contents boil well, take them off the flame and serve.
