Arunraja Kamaraj – The Tamil lyricist of ‘Neruppu da’ song

Arunraja Kamaraj is a Tamil cine personality known as a film actor, director, lyricist and playback singer. He catapulted to fame writing the catchy lyrics of the theme song – Neruppu da for Rajinikanth’s film Kabali in 2016. He also rendered his voice for the same song aside Rajinikanth. He also penned lyrics for Theri, Bhairava, Pencil, Pizza 1 & 2 etc. His song Kalippu Katta Kalippu as a playback singer for the Malayalam film, Oru Mexican Aparatha gained him popularity among Malayali movie buffs. Ding Dong for Jigarthanda is a popular song as a playback singer in Tamil movies.

Perur of Kulithalai town of Karur district is his native place. His acting dreams were not supported by parents, and after completing his engineering degree he moved to Chennai to get a break in the film industry. He joined a performing group, Kalakka Povathu Yaaru at Chennai where he started off as a mimicry artist. He joined film industry as an assistant director and in 2012 he got a major break as a lyricist through horror flick Pizza, and there was no turning back after that.

1. He never received formal training in singing. So he always selects songs which don’t require a trained voice. For the same reason his voice is mostly used for fast tracks and peppy numbers.

2. He has made brief appearances in Tamil flicks – Raja Rani, Remo, Maragadha Naanayam, Maan Karate etc.

3. He is an engineering graduate from J. J. College of Engineering and Technology, Trichy. Actor Sivakarthikeyan was his college mate.
