
Ingredients for Alappuzha Style Crab Curry:
- Crab – 650 gm (before cleaning)
- Onion chopped fine – 2
- Tomato chopped – 2
- Ginger crushed – 1 piece
- Garlic crushed – 10 cloves
- Kashmiri chilli powder – 2 tablespoons
- Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
- Coriander powder – 1 tablespoon
- Garam masala powder – ½ tablespoon
- Coconut milk – 1 cup
- Curry leaves – 3 nos.
- Salt and coconut oil – For frying
For tempering:
- Mustard – ½ tsp
- Fenugreek – ¼ tsp
- Shallots chopped thin – 2 tablespoons
- Coconut oil – 2 tablespoons
How to prepare Alappuzha Style Crab Curry?
- Heat an earthen pot or thick-bottomed pan and heat oil.
- Sauté onions, followed by sliced tomatoes, ginger and garlic.
- When the raw smell goes out, add the powders and fry well.
- Add crab pieces, a few curry leaves and 1 cup of water.
- Cook crab pieces in a low flame.
- After 6-8 minutes, add coconut milk.
- When the crab is well-cooked, turn off the flame.
- Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan and add mustard, fenugreek, shallots and remaining curry leaves.
- Fry all these ingredients and add to your special Alappuzha crab curry.
