Sameer Sharma alias Samir Sharma was a popular Hindi actor mostly associated with Hindi TV soaps. He has also played a couple of supporting roles in Hasee Toh Phasee and Ittefaq, both produced by Karan Johar. As a television actor, he shot to fame playing Krishna Agarwal in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki. His roles, Nitin in Dil Kya Chahta Hai and Tusshar in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi are also popular. In a career spanning 16 years, he appeared in more than 15 TV shows and has been a busy and established actor.

He was found hanging in his apartment at Mumbai on 5 August 2020, and has allegedly committed suicide. Thus, he joins the list of young and well-established Hindi TV actors who allegedly committed suicide in the past few months, mostly by hanging. Asif Asra and Kushal Punjabi were other Hindi television actors found hanging in 2019 – 2020.

He dabbed between different kinds of jobs in Bangalore before moving to Mumbai

Samir Sharma hailed from Delhi, where he completed his studies. Later, he moved to Bangalore, where he dabbled between different kinds of jobs. He worked with an IT company, an ad agency and for Radio City before moving to Mumbai to pursue his dreams as an actor and model. He started receiving assignments in modeling and his success in this field gave him first break to small screen in year 2004. Ekta Kapoor’s Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii was his first show, which still remains on the most popular characters he played on the small screen.

He mostly played supporting roles on small screen, and most roles got noticed. Dil Kya Chahta Hai and Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi are his other popular roles in his first phase in TV world, which helped him to establish his career. The negative role of Brij in Jyoti aired on NDTV Imagine, Varad Agnihotri in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?…Ek Baar Phir, handsome and eligible bachelor Rishabh Johri in Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon ki, Navin Singh Ahluwalia in Left Right Left, Shantanu Sardesai in 2612, Dev Singh Khurana in Geet Hui Sabse Parayee, etc., are other notable roles.

He marked his big screen debut with Hasee Toh Phasee in 2014. However, he preferred to stick to small-screen roles, and established a niche of his own. He also appeared in Ittefaq in 2017, playing the important role of Shekhar Sinha, whose character is murdered in the film. He was found hanging in kitchen ceiling of his apartment on 5 August 2020. He was 44 and was survived by his wife, Aachla Sharma. He was last seen in Star Plus’ Yeh Rishtey Hain Pyaar Ke aired during 2019-2020, before the lockdown started.

1. He acted in only two Bollywood films – Hasee Toh Phasee and Ittefaq, both produced by Karan Johar. Interestingly, both movies starred Sidharth Malhotra in the lead role.

2. He played Abhay, the elder brother of Siddharth Malhotra in Hasee Toh Phasee. The film’s director Vinil Mathew was his childhood friend, and hence he agreed to do this cameo.

3. In 2016, he appeared in one web series, A.I.SHA My Virtual Girlfriend.

4. He earlier used the professional name, Sameer Sharma.

5. He completed his graduation in Economics with honours.

6. His favourite hobbies include cooking and driving, apart from reading.
