Pranasakhi Njan Verumoru Song from Pareeksha – Lyrics in English with Translation

Pranasakhi Njan Verumoru lyrics

Pranasakhi…Pranasakhi…

Hey dear….Hey dear

Pranasakhi njan verumoru

Paamaranam pattukaran

Hey dear,

I am just an illiterate singer

Ganaloka veedhikalil

Venuvoothum aattidayan

In the paths of the musical world,

I am a singing shepherd

Pranasakhi njan verumoru

Paamaranam pattukaran

Hey dear,

I am just an illiterate singer

Pranasakhi njan…

Hey dear (friend), I am…..

Enkilumenn omalalkku

Thamasikkan en karalil

Even then, for my dear

To reside in my heart

Thanka kinakkal kondoru

Tajmahal njanuyartham

I shall build a Taj Mahal,

Made of golden dreams

Mayaatha madhura gaana

Maliniyude kalpadavil

On the stone steps of Malini (river)

With unfaded sweet music,

Kaanatha poonkudilil

Kanmaniye kondupokam

I shall take you, dear

To the beautiful cottage no one seen before

Pranasakhi njan verumoru

Paamaranam pattukaran

Hey dear,

I am just an illiterate singer

Pranasakhi njan…

Hey dear, I am….

Ponthi varum sankalpathin

Ponnashoka malar vaniyil

In the flower garden filled with *Ashoka trees,

Where imaginations pop up,

Chanthamezhum chandrika than

Chandanamani mandirathil

In the sandalwood mansion

Owned by beautiful moonlight,

Sundara vasantha ravin

Indraneela mandapathil

In the sapphire gazebo of a beautiful spring night,

Ennumennum thaamasikkan

Ente koode porumo nee

Will you come with me,

To live here forever?

Ennumennum thaamasikkan

Ente koode porumo nee

Will you come with me,

To stay here forever?

Pranasakhi njan verumoru

Paamaranam pattukaran

Hey dear,

I am just an illiterate singer

Ganaloka veedhikalil

Venuvoothum aattidayan

In the paths of the musical world,

I am a singing shepherd

Pranasakhi njan…

Hey dear, I am….

End note: Lyrics are so simple & beautiful, but most difficult to translate with exact meaning. Many times, I got a bit confused while translating. For instance, the full explanation of first 4 lines of Antara is bit lengthy, but poet wrote it so simple. Exact meaning could be – As it’s not possible for the poor shepherd to build a big castle for her, he can build the same/a Taj Mahal, the symbol of love, in his imaginary world inside his heart.

Similarly, in the continuing lines of the same Antara, if we extract an exact translation, it could be like this. The poet is describing the river Malini as a beautiful and everlasting song, or it could be vice versa too.

Though I tried my best, I couldn’t get full satisfaction translating this beautiful melody. I admit! So simple lyrics, but well-constructed; not an easy task to find same English words.
