Nandini Ghosal is a noted Bengali classical dancer, choreographer & actress. She acted in Bengali films – Char Adhyay and Kichhhu Sanlap Kichhu Pralap, apart from Hindi and Malayalam films. She was Madhavan’s heroine in his first full-length lead role in Hindi – Akeli, originally made in 1999. Nandini also played the female lead in singer Unni Menon’s debut movie as an actor. The Malayalam movie was titled – Sthithi (2003). She has performed Odissi in dance festivals in different cities of India and abroad.

Nandini Ghosal hails from Bengal. During her childhood, she trained in Kathak for 6 years and also Bharatnatyam. She got initial training from Poushali Mukherjee in 1987 for two years, followed by the maestro Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra, the father of present day Odissi in 1989. She was trained under Mahapatra for 16 years and is among his prominent disciples. Being a part of several dance-dramas choreographed by the maestro, later she choreographed her own pieces.

She is an accomplished dancer, who has choreographed and performed in several concerts, both in India and abroad. She had been a member of the World Arts Council, a UNESCO sponsored organization of the Valencian Government, Spain. A top-grade dancer for Doordarshan, she has given several top-notch performances for television. Nandini owns a dance school and regularly conduct workshops and lecture demonstrations.

Nandini marked her screen debut with 1997 Hindi film, Char Adhyay, where she played the lead role. The film was produced by NFDC for Doordarshan. It is based on Rabindranath Tagore’s last novel by the same name, written in 1934. In 1999, she acted in the Bengali film, Kichhhu Sanlap Kichhu Pralap, where she played the lead role.

She is the first heroine of actor Madhavan. Before his first full-fledged film Alai Payuthey was released, he had shot one Hindi film, Akeli, in 1999. But the movie’s release was delayed for various reasons. The movie was finally released on Youtube in 2014. She also acted in Bengali short film, Anya Swapna.

Oru Chembaneer Poo From Sthithi

Unni Menon is a prominent playback singer of south Indian languages, who has sung some of the greatest hits of A. R. Rahman in the 1990s. When he marked his screen debut in a lead role in Sthithi (2003), Nandini Ghosal played the female lead. Thus, the movie marked her Malayalam debut. The movie was not a box office hit, but one romantic song from the film, filmed on Unni Menon and Nandini Ghosal, became iconic and is counted among nostalgic songs of the present generation. The song – Oru Chembaneer Poo was composed by Unni Menon himself.
