Chinmoy Chattopadhyay – Rabindrasangeet exponent of 20th century
Chinmoy Chattopadhyay (1930-1987) was an exponent of Rabindrasangeet from Bengal. He got into profession of singing in the mid-1960s and was active in the field for more than two decades till his death. His albums such as Dinsesher Ranga Mukul, Tridhara and Durer Bandhu were released posthumously. He has frequently collaborated with artists like Sumitra Sen, Pratima Bandopadhyay and Sagar Sen during his life time.
Chinmoy Chattopadhyay was born in Panihati in Bengal. He spent most of his lifetime in Kolkata where he was fully engaged with Rabindrasangeet since mid-1960s. Bhara Thak Smritisudhai in 1966 was his first released album. Since then he released over a dozen of albums in Rabindrasangeet. Amar Jibanpatro Uchchhaliya, Chhaya Ghonaichhe Bone Bone, Hridayer Moni Adarini Mor, Akashe Aaj Kon Charaner, Kar Chokher Chaoyar, Kachhe Chhile Dure Gele etc are among his popular songs. Golden Hour – Sentimental Favorites, Aparna Madhuri, Ebar Amay Dakle Dure, Golden Hour – Songs of Tagore, Hriday Basanta Bone, Rare Gems Tagore etc are among his released albums.
Chinmoy Chattopadhyay – Some interesting and unknown facts
1. Russel Road East 2nd Lane of Rabindra Sarobar area in British India was renamed as Chinmoy Chatterjee Sarani after his death.
2. He died at a comparatively young age of 57, due to liver ailments. He was at his career peak during his death.
3. He completed his matriculation.
