Chenthaarmizhi Poonthen song from Perumazhakalam – Lyrics in English with Translation

Oonjal aadinal

Kannunjal aadinal

Ponnunjal aadinal

Anjanamaalai manamakalthaan(F)

She is swinging in swing

Eyes are swinging

She is swinging in golden swing

Anchanamala…

The girl who got married

Chentharmizhi poonthenmozhi

Kanninu kannaam en kanmani

The girl with lotus eyes & honey voice

My eyes, my dear

Chentharmizhi poonthenmozhi

Kanninu kannaam en kanmani

The girl with lotus eyes & honey voice

My eyes, my dear

Kannoonjalaadum mangai mani

Nee margazhi thinkalin

Madu malar madi thattille

Pon maano pal kanavo(M)

The woman with swinging eyes

In the lap of beautiful moon

Are you golden deer or milky dream?

Nin jeevanil urukunnu njan

Oru sneha ganga nyrmalliamaai(F)

I am melting in your life

With the tenderness of loving Ganga

Ethra kandalum mathi varillallo

Ninte nila chantham(M)

I can watch you long

Your moonlight beauty

Pinnil ninnente kannu pothumbol

Enne marannu njan(F)

When you close my eyes from behind

I forgot myself

Neelambal thedi nammal pandalanjappol

When we wandered searching blue lily long back

Nee thandulanjoraambal

Poovai ninnappol

Vari vandai njan mohichu(M)

When you stood as a lily with tender stem

I desired you as a bee

Nin jeevanil ozhukunnu njan

Oru sneha ganga nyrmalliamaai(F)

I am melting in your life

Wth the tenderness of loving Ganga

Nin nizhal pole koode varam njan

Nee ente sooryanalle(F)

I shall follow you as your shadow

Are you not my sun?

Veli nilavai thedi varam njan

Nee ente sandhyayalle(M)

I shall come searching you as wedding moonlight

Are you not my nightfall?

Annagrahara rathriyil

Theru vannappol

That night, when chariot reached *Agraharam

Kara thaaril nammal

Manchirathum kondunadannille

Thiruyothi melle nenjil cherththille(F)

Didn’t we carry earthen lamps in hands?

Didn’t we blow the wicks &

Embraced each other?

Chentharmizhi poonthenmozhi

Kanninu kannaam en kanmani

The girl with lotus eyes & honey voice

My eyes, my dear

Kannoonjalaadum mangai mani

Nee margazhi thingalen

Madu malar thattilil

Pon mano pal kanavo(M)

The woman with swinging eyes

In the lap of beautiful moon

Are you golden deer or milky dream?

Nin jeevanil…Umm…Umm…Umm

Ozhukunnu njan …Umm…Umm…Umm

Oru sneha ganga nyrmalliamaai(F)

I am melting in your life

With the tenderness of loving Ganga

*Agraharam means residential area of Tamil Brahmin houses. Houses don’t have courtyard/free spaces on either side and they will share common wall, literally homes are like rooms build together in a row, on either side of common road. Such homes can be 2-storied, and can have any number of rooms. But mostly they are in long rectangle shapes. Outer walls of 2 houses will be common, & it’s common for houses on both sides. It simply resembles a rental home, where each room owned by separate family. Only Brahmins live there.
