Brown Peas Curry (Vanpayar Curry)

Ingredients for Brown Peas Curry (Vanpayar Curry):

1. Brown peas (Vanpayar) – ½ cup

2. Tamarind – Gooseberry sized

    Turmeric powder – As required

    Sambar powder – 2 small spoons

    Salt – For taste

    Egg plant – 100 gm, chopped

    Onions – ½ kg, chopped fine

3. Coconut scrapped – 3 big spoons

    Cumin seeds – ½ small spoon

4. Asafoetida powder – As required

5. Coconut oil – 1 small spoon

6. Mustard – ¾ small spoon

    Red chillies – 1 or 2

    Curry leaves – A handful

How to prepare Brown Peas Curry (Vanpayar Curry)?

1. Add a little water to tamarind and extract juice.

2. Make a fine paste of coconut and cumin seeds.

3. Cook peas adding sufficient water.

4. Add ingredients no: 2 to cooked peas and allow contents to boil.

5. Add coconut paste and asafoetida powder and boil the contents again.

6. When curry thickens, put off the flame.

7. Temper oil adding mustard and curry leaves, and add to your brown peas curry.
