Mutton Mugalai in Kerala style


Ingredients for Mutton Mugalai in Kerala style:

1. Mutton (30 pieces) – 1 kg
2. Coconut oil – 200 gm
3. Curry leaves – 4 stems
4. Cardamom – 10
5. Onion finely chopped – 500 gm
6. Ginger crushed – 50 gm
7. Garlic crushed – 50 gm
8. Green chillies split into two – 1 cup
9. Chilli powder – 2 small spoons
10. Turmeric powder – 2 small spoons
11. Garam masala – 2 small spoons
12. Cashew nuts – 50 gms
13. Coconut scrapped – 1
14. Mace (Jathipatri) – 2
15. Tomato cut into small pieces – 250 gm
16. Coriander leaves – ½ cup
17. Salt – As needed
 

How to prepare Mutton Mugalai in Kerala style?

1. Heat oil and add curry leaves and cardamom. Then add onion, green chillies, ginger and garlic. Sauté well and add mutton pieces. Sauté again.
2. Add the three powders along with 1 cup water and cook the mutton. When it’s almost done, add salt.
3. Heat oil in a pan and add coconut, mace and cashew nuts and fry till a light red colour appears. Then grind the mixture adding a little water.
4. Add the coconut paste along with tomato pieces and coriander leaves to mutton. Stir it well for a minute and put the flame off.
