Balaji, better known as Lollu Sabha Balaji, was an actor associated with Tamil films and TV shows, who excelled in comedy roles. Though he earned recognition through a couple of Tamil films – Silambattam and Dindigul Sarathy, he is best remembered for the TV shows, Super 10 and Lollu Sabha. His comedy timing and dialogue delivery skills helped him to establish himself in the industry. After the huge success of the show, Lollu Sabha, he got a lot of fans, and the tag was permanently added to his name.

Balaji was born in 1971. He got noticed for the first time through the TV shows.

He was one among the best finds of the comedy spoof show, Lollu Sabha, aired on Vijay TV during the mid-2000s. Started with newcomers and lesser-known actors, the show went on to become a huge success and immensely popular among TV viewers. The show aired on STAR Vijay during 2003–2008, hilariously parodied popular Tamil movies and classic blockbusters. After the huge success of the show, like many other actors associated with the show, the ‘Lollu Sabha’ tag got permanently added to his name.

The show established the respective careers of many actors, including Santhanam. Other great finds of the spoof comedy show include – Lollu Sabha Manohar, Lollu Sabha Jeeva, Lollu Sabha Swaminathan, Lollu Sabha Seshu, and Jangiri Madhumitha. The show made him a household name in Tamil Nadu.

His notable roles on the big screen

Lollu Sabha Balaji also did a very few but memorable comedy roles on the Tamil screen during his short life span. His comic and character roles in Kadhal FM, 18 Vayasu Puyale, Dindigul Sarathy, Silambattam, Thiru Thiru Thuru Thuru, Newtonin Moondram Vidhi and Sirithal Rasipen got noticed. He did more than a dozen films.

He also wrote the dialogues of the 2013-release Thillu Mullu, a remake of the Rajinikanth starrer of the same name. Balaji had a severe case of jaundice and died on 7 March 2014 in Anagaputthur. He was only 43 and had been suffering from the disease for a prolonged time. He was survived by his wife and three children. Minsaram (2011) was his last release.

He is also remembered as the mentor of popular actor Santhanam. They appeared together in the show, Lollu Sabha. In fact, Balaji introduced Santhanam to the show’s director, which established his career. Santhanam paid due respect to the actor.
