Kadalaykkappam

traditional rice sweets

Ingredients for Kadalaykkappam:

1. Black chickpeas (Karutha Kadala) – ½ cup

2. Coconut scrapped – 3 cups

3. Rice flour – 1 cup

    Sugar – 2 cup

4. Salt – A pinch

    Cardamom powder – ½ small spoon

5. Ghee – 2 big spoons

How to prepare Kadalaykkappam?

1. Soak chickpeas overnight and in the early morning, separate them from skin.

2. Cook the chickpeas using a pressure cooker and strain excess water.

3. Extract ½ cup first milk and 5 cups second milk from 3 cups of scrapped coconut.

4. Heat 2nd milk, rice flour and sugar in a thick bottomed pan in low flame and keep stirring.

5. Cook for approximate 20 minutes till contents thicken.

6. Add chickpeas, first extract of coconut milk, salt and cardamom powder.

7. Cook for some time till the contents separate from the sides of the pan.

8. Add ghee and put off the flame.

9. Grease a plate with a little butter and transfer the contents to it.

10. Using a spoon level it and allow to cool.

11. Cut your Kadalaykkappam into desired shapes and serve.
