Girish Kumar is a former Bollywood actor, best known for his debut film, Ramaiya Vastavaiya, opposite Shruti Hassan. This romantic flick, released in 2013, was directed by Prabhu Deva. He was launched by his father, Kumar S. Taurani, who is a film producer and the managing director of Tips Industries Limited. In 2016, he played the lead role in the Bollywood film, Loveshhuda, and also appeared in one short film, Collateral Damage (2018), before he vanished from the spotlight.
Girish Kumar – Bollywood Actor, best known for his debut film

He was born on January 30, 1989, as the son of Kumar S. Taurani, the managing director of Tips Industries Limited. His paternal uncle, Ramesh S. Taurani, is the co-owner and managing director of Tips Industries Limited.
Kumar was signed for the Bollywood romance film Ramaiya Vastavaiya, directed by Prabhu Deva. The movie was the official remake of the 2002 Telugu movie, Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana, which has been remade into multiple languages. In fact, the movie plot was heavily inspired by two Salman Khan movies, Meine Pyar Kiya and Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya, for which it was criticized at the time of release.
Prabhudeva signed the actor four years before the film’s release
Girish Kumar was given a good time to prepare for the role. He also went through a screen test for this movie and rigorous training. Several choreographers were appointed to give him training in different dance forms. Girish also underwent bodybuilding training for three years as he was overweighed. He did a lot of hard work and developed six-pack abs for the role. Though Prabhu Deva tried different options for his co-actress, Shruti Hassan was finally selected as she looked the most compatible.
He was given a grant launch by his father in Bollywood. But the movie opened to mixed reviews and was not a commercial success. However, his fresh pairing with Shruti Hassan was well appreciated, and the romantic song, “Jeene Laga Hoon“, sung by Atif Aslam and Shreya Ghoshal became a huge chartbuster. Even now, the actor is best remembered for this evergreen song. When the song was released in 2013, it went viral and received more than 17 million hits on YouTube, which was a huge hit in those days.
The formulae that have been made several times in Bollywood didn’t work with the audience this time. His movie and performance were compared with Salman Khan’s blockbusters. He received many offers and was casted in a lead role in Rani Tu Main Raja opposite Amrita Puri & Isha Koppikar. Even his character was named Karan. But the movie got shelved.
He succeeded in the family business
Later Girish Kumar acted in one more movie, Loveshhuda, which also failed at the box office. He disappeared from the limelight. After realizing his acting career wasn’t taking off as planned, Girish quietly stepped away from the camera and stepped into the family empire. Today, he serves as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Tips Industries, and his corporate stake has given him an estimated personal net worth of over ₹2,164 crore. His company’s worth is ₹8,000 crore.
In 2026, during the massive trailer launch event for Varun Dhawan‘s movie, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, he appeared in front of the camera after a long time. Girish Kumar was in attendance supporting his family’s media banner, Tips Industries, which was producing the movie. When it was time to introduce Girish on stage, Varun Dhawan started singing “Jeene Laga Hoon”—the blockbuster romantic track from Girish’s debut film, Ramaiya Vastavaiya, refreshing the memories of the millennials and Gen Z.
Girish Kumar’s professional journey is the perfect inspiration for industry outsiders and star kids alike. When acting didn’t work out, he didn’t force it—he pivoted. By successfully channeling his energy into the business side of entertainment, he carved out an incredibly prosperous second chapter. Today, his massive success as a media executive proves that finding your true strength is the ultimate comeback.
