Geeta Basra – Bollywood actress and model of ‘The Train’ fame

Geeta Basra is an Indian actress and model, who works in Bollywood. She is the wife of famous Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh. She marked her screen debut opposite Emraan Hashmi in Dil Diya Hai directed by Aditya Datt, and shared screen space with Hashmi once again for the second movie, The Train, for which she is known most. Both these movies flopped at box office. She appeared in a few more movies, before she married cricketer Harbajan Singh in 2015 and retired from films.

First two Bollywood releases sharing screen space with Emraan Hashmi

Geeta Basra is of Punjabi origin, born and brought up in Britain. She was born in Portsmouth in 1984. She studied acting at the Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting Institute, before foraying into acting. Dil Diya Hai in 2006 marked her screen debut opposite Emraan Hashmi and Ashmit Patel. Though the movie was a flop, the sizzling track filmed on Geeta and Ashmit, and its remixed versions were chartbusters. She formed a hot pair with Emraan Hashmi for her next release, The Train the following year, which included a few steamy scenes. She played a negative role in this movie, which was once again a box office failure.

A string of flops till her retirement from films

She took a break from acting following the flop of ‘The Train’. She made a special appearance in song “Baap Ka Maal” in Zila Ghaziabad in 2013, after a long break of 5 years. She also made a guest appearance in 2014 release, Mr Joe B. Carvalho. In 2015 she married cricketer Harbhajan Singh after dating him for a few years.

In 2016 she returned to acting with Second Hand Husband in a supporting role. The movie also met with commercial failure. Same year she also marked her Punjabi screen debut in a lead role through ‘Lock’. She shared screen space with Gippy Grewal and Gurpreet Ghuggi in this Punjabi flick, where she played Gurpreet’s assistant Pammi. A daughter was born to Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra same year in London, and after that she said good bye to acting.

She is best known for her glamorous looks than acting, and none of her movies clicked at box office. Yet as a glamorous actress she always remained in limelight ever Singh she started dating Singh. In professional line, she is still known for her first two releases, opposite Emraan Hashmi, and its songs. Woh Ajnabee and Beete Lamhe from The Train and the title track of Dil Diya Hai & Afsana Banake Phool Na Jaana are among the chartbuster songs featuring Basra.

Geeta Basra – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. She holds British citizenship.

2. She was featured in the music video, “Ghum Sum Ghum Sum” aside Rahul Bhat, and famous singers, Sukshinder Shinda and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan rendered their voices.

3. Her younger brother Rahul is 10 years junior to her.

4. Initially she has always denied her relationship with cricketer Harbhajan Singh. Later they got married. They held their relationship under wraps for long 5 years.
