Dates Unniyappam is a delicious and wholesome twist on the traditional Kerala Unniyappam, sweetened naturally with dates and flavoured with jaggery/sugar and cardamom. These soft, golden, bite-sized treats make for a perfect festive snack or teatime delight that’s both flavorful and nutritious. Ingredients for Dates Unniyappam:
- Egg – 1
Sugar – 3 big spoons - Maida – 3 big spoons
Semolina – ½ cup - Dates – 8 big, cut into pieces
Cashews broken – 2 big spoons
Cardamom powder – ½ small spoon
Rose water – 1 big spoon
Ghee – 2 small spoons
Salt – A little
Baking soda – ¼ small spoon
Milk – ½ cup - Oil – For frying
How to prepare Dates Unniyappam?
- Beat egg and sugar together.
- Add maida and semolina and mix well.
- Add ingredients no: 3 and mix thoroughly.
- If the batter is thick, add a little water to adjust the consistency.
- Allow the batter to rest for the next two hours.
- Place the Unniyappam maker in the stove and pour two small spoons of oil into each mould.
- Pour a small spoonful of batter into each mould.
- Cook both sides until golden brown.
N.B: To improve the taste, you can mix a little ghee along with oil for frying.
