Chakka Cutlet, also known as Jackfruit Cutlet, is a tasty Kerala snack made with tender jackfruit and spices, shaped into cutlets and pan-fried until golden and crisp. This flavorful snack is perfect for tea time or evening munching and celebrates the unique taste of Kerala jackfruit.

Jackfruit Cutlet

Ingredients for Chakka Cutlet (Jackfruit Cutlet):

  1. Oil – 2 big spoons
  2.  Onion chopped – ½ cup
    Ginger chopped – 1 small spoon
    Green chillies chopped – 4
    Curry leaves – 2 big spoons
    Salt – As needed
  3. Pepper powder – 1/4 small spoon
    Chilli powder – ½ small spoon
    Turmeric powder – 1/4 small spoon
    Garam masala powder – ½ small spoon
  4. Raw/tender jackfruit chopped fine – 2 cups
  5. Potato – 1, medium-sized, boiled and smashed
  6. Egg – 1
  7.  Bread crumbs – As needed
  8.  Oil – As needed

How to prepare Chakka Cutlet (Jackfruit Cutlet)?

  1. Heat oil and sauté ingredients no: 2.
  2. Add the powders and sauté till the raw smell goes out.
  3. Add jackfruit, mix well and close the lid.
  4. Cook until done, then add smashed potatoes.
  5. Turn off the flame and allow the masala to cool.
  6.  Mix all ingredients once again using your hands and make balls.
  7.  Make cutlet shapes from balls and dip each one in beaten egg.
  8. Roll each cutlet in bread crumbs till it gets a fine coat.
  9. Deep fry in hot oil. Cutlets should turn golden brown.
