Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan reunite for Vishal Bhardwaj’s gangster film

It’s almost two years since Piku was released. Noted for their unconventional pairing onscreen for the first time, Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan tasted success for this film with some humour elements.  Also read: Unconventional pairing of onscreen couples in Bollywood. The movie was helmed by Shoojit Sircar. After a few light moments, now it’s time for a serious topic.

The movie is produced by Vishal Bhardwaj known for several gangster and dark element movies and this time it’s a gangster movie too. The untitled project stars Deepika Padukone and Irrfan Khan in lead role, and Deepika is to play a Donna named Rahima Khan, who was known as Sapna Didi in the 1980s. Sapna Didi who tried to revenge Dawood Ibrahim for murdering her husband was killed by him before she could reach him. It’s for the first time Deepika plays a real-life character in Bollywood, and definitely it could be interesting.

Her first time collaboration with Vishal, the movie is directed by Honey Trehan, who is known for his long association with Bhardwaj. The movie is co-produced by Arjun N Kapoor and Prerna Arora. Prerna has earlier co-produced super hit film Rustom, and currently Toilet-Ek Prem Katha, both starring Akshay Kumar.

While Deepika plays Sapna Didi in the movie, Irrfan portrays the role of a local gangster. The movie is an adaption of journalist turned- author Hussain Zaidi’s book, Mafia Queens of Mumbai, and will be scripted by Vishal himself. Film is expected to go on floors by end of 2017. Hope Piku duo brings some great surprises to big screen once again.
