Baked Cauliflower with White Sauce

Ingredients for Baked Cauliflower with White Sauce:

  1. Cauliflower – 250 g
  2. Onion – 6, medium-sized
    Green chillies – 3
    Ginger – 1/2 inch piece
    Capsicum – 1
    Celery – 2 stems
  3. Oil – 2 tbsp
  4. Salt – To taste
    Pepper powder – To taste

For white sauce:

  1. Butter – 1 tbsp
  2. All-purpose flour – 1/2 tbsp
  3. Milk – 1 cup
  4. Mustard powder – 1/8 tsp
    Pepper powder – 1/2 tsp
  5. Cheese – 3 tbsp, grated
  6. Egg – 1, beaten

How to prepare Baked Cauliflower with White Sauce?

  1. Preheat the oven to 150°C.
  2. Cut the cauliflower into large florets and soak in salted water for 10 minutes.
  3. Parboil the cauliflower, drain, and keep aside.
  4. Finely chop the ingredients listed as 2.
  5. Heat oil in a pan and sauté these chopped ingredients together. Add the cauliflower, salt, and pepper powder, and cook on low heat for a few minutes. Take it from flame.
  6. In another pan, melt butter and add the all-purpose flour, stirring continuously. When the raw smell disappears, add milk and keep stirring.
  7. When the sauce thickens, add mustard powder and pepper powder. Once it becomes thick, add 3/4 of the grated cheese and mix well.
  8. Grease a pie dish, arrange the cauliflower, and pour the white sauce over it.
  9. Brush the beaten egg on top.
  10. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top and then dot the cauliflower with butter here and there.
  11. Bake the cauliflower in the preheated oven for 40 minutes until golden in colour.
