
Ingredients for Baked Cauliflower with White Sauce:
- Cauliflower – 250 g
- Onion – 6, medium-sized
Green chillies – 3
Ginger – 1/2 inch piece
Capsicum – 1
Celery – 2 stems - Oil – 2 tbsp
- Salt – To taste
Pepper powder – To taste
For white sauce:
- Butter – 1 tbsp
- All-purpose flour – 1/2 tbsp
- Milk – 1 cup
- Mustard powder – 1/8 tsp
Pepper powder – 1/2 tsp - Cheese – 3 tbsp, grated
- Egg – 1, beaten
How to prepare Baked Cauliflower with White Sauce?
- Preheat the oven to 150°C.
- Cut the cauliflower into large florets and soak in salted water for 10 minutes.
- Parboil the cauliflower, drain, and keep aside.
- Finely chop the ingredients listed as 2.
- Heat oil in a pan and sauté these chopped ingredients together. Add the cauliflower, salt, and pepper powder, and cook on low heat for a few minutes. Take it from flame.
- In another pan, melt butter and add the all-purpose flour, stirring continuously. When the raw smell disappears, add milk and keep stirring.
- When the sauce thickens, add mustard powder and pepper powder. Once it becomes thick, add 3/4 of the grated cheese and mix well.
- Grease a pie dish, arrange the cauliflower, and pour the white sauce over it.
- Brush the beaten egg on top.
- Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top and then dot the cauliflower with butter here and there.
- Bake the cauliflower in the preheated oven for 40 minutes until golden in colour.
