Assim Jamal – Malayalam actor of ‘Anarkali’ fame

Assim Jamal is a film actor associated with Mollywood, best known for playing grey and negative shades onscreen. His association with Prithviraj has given him some of the memorable roles in Malayalam cinema, of which his negative role as a police officer in hit film Anarkali gave him the major break. In fact Prithviraj’s Anwar gave him a major breakthrough in the initial phase of his career. His role as a Pakistani in Veettilekkulla Vazhi also got noticed.

Assim Jamal hails from Thrissur, Kerala. Since young he was a movie buff who loved watching movies in theatre and later he became a part of several street plays. Worked as a banker abroad for a while, his career in films started with Kurukshetra in 2008, where he played a negative character Hydher, a Pakistani official. From there on he started accepting minor negative roles till he got his big break through Anwar. Lord Livingstone 7000 Kandi, Ustad Hotel, Anarkali, Pakida, Honey Bee, Honey Bee 2, Kurukshetra, Casanovva, Romancham, Thallumala  etc are a few more character roles he played onscreen.

1. Assim has been a banker in a foreign country who later moved back to India to pursue a career in films.

2. He began his acting career with street plays, also played minor roles on screen before receiving some meaty negative shaded roles onscreen.  

3. He accepted his brief role in Veettilekkulla Vazhi only because of his two combination scenes with Prithviraj.  

4. He played the role of a Pakistani (mostly villain kind of roles) in many Malayalam movies. 

5. His humorous role as one among 7 bachelors in Romancham was also appreciated.
