Anupam Sharma – Bollywood film producer of several hit films shot in Australia

Anupam Sharma is an Australia-based Indian film director, producer and actor. As a film producer, he is best known for the hit films – Dil Chahta Hai and Heyy Babyy shot in Mumbai. He is into film production since late 1990s after he met Feroz Khan in 1998. He also directed Australian feature film unIndian, and the movie starred famous cricketer Brett Lee.    

Anupam Sharma was born in Ajmer. He watched Saransh at the age of 11, and decided to join film field. After completing his schooling in Dehradun, he moved to Australia where he completed graduation and also master’s degree in Films & Theatre from the University of New South Wales. In the 1990s, he was associated with theatre and short films before he met Feroz Khan in 1998. After that he turned a film producer and co-produced Prem Aggan which launched Feroz Khan’s son Fardeen Khan to Bollywood. He also co-produced Fardeen Khan’s Janeshen and Kitne Door… Kitne Paas, and all these films tanked at box office.

His initial days in Bollywood were not successful as his Bollywood ventures like Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage, Hadh Karde Aapne, Pyaar Koi Khel Nahin, Beti No: 1, Deewane etc couldn’t meet success, though they owned good star cast. He got relief through Dil Chahta Hai in 2001, which was shot at Sydney. He has been associated with around 275 projects, which include films, theatre productions, ad films as well as TV shows.

Anupam Sharma – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. He grew up watching films at theatres of Lucknow and Dehradun, and got interested in films right from childhood.

2. He always wanted to pursue films professionally, and that’s why he did Master’s in Filmmaking.

3. He did his Master’s thesis on Indian cinema.

4. After doing his Master’s degree he began with short films in 1990s.

5. He is known for financing films produced in Australia, and also for popularizing them.

6. Apart from co-producing Heyy Babyy, he played the brief role of a doctor (of Akshay Kumar’s daughter) in the film.

7. He started Films and Casting Temple in 2000, which was a casting and consulting company.

8. Along with Peter Castaldi, he launched An Australian Film Initiative in 2011.

9. Apart from Feroz Khan, he has collaborated with Rakesh Roshan, Yash Johar, Aditya Chopra, Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani for Bollywood projects, as a film producer.
