It happens quite often. You meet a new person, have a chat with and at many occasions you may interact with him very often. But the problem is you forget his name. After a few meetings, it becomes difficult for you to ask him. You may be reluctant to do so. Why to get into such difficult situations? Let me provide you 5 simple tricks to remember names easily.

Register the names once you hear it for the first time – It may be just formal to ask names and whereabouts. But why can’t you make a habit to memorize names of people you encounter with every day? Just register their names in your mind. Clarify the correct pronunciation, hear it clear, and repeat it two or three times to memorize the name. Also try to memorize its spelling. The name is almost registered in your mind. If you didn’t hear it correctly, never hesitate to ask him and clarify it.

Relate the name with famous celebrities or persons you know – Another easy trick is to simply relate the name with famous personalities, your friends, relatives or even members from your family. If the name is same, the process is very easy. Even if not, it’s easy to link the name with someone whose name is almost the same.

For instant, if you have met a person with name ‘Diana’, it’s very easy to relate the name with Queen Diana. Also try to bring into mind the picture of Queen Diana, her story etc. You are not going to forget that person’s name very soon. Next time when you see her, Queen Diana definitely strikes your mind. Suppose the person’s name is Dina. Yet you can relate the person to Queen Diana, and just note in mind, what’s the difference in spelling. And it’s done!

Try to call the person by name itself rather than using you, Mr, Sir, Madam etc – When you repeatedly call a person by his name, his name is going to deeply register in your mind. Also after a formal or informal meeting when you part, you can call his name and say good bye. So next time when you hear his name, his face will strike your mind first.

Some names can be seen as a picture in mind – Most of the common names we use have some meaning. If you are able to find that meaning, and relate the person with that object, it’s easily done. For instance: If person’s name is Tushar, you can assume a dew drop in your mind. If her name is Asha, you can assume ‘desire’ in your mind. Sunset for Sandhya, Mountain for Giri, Night for Nisha and Dhruv for the pole star are a few more instances.

You can also connect people’s names with jokes, your favourite songs, movies and even an incident and date. You can choose anything which you can relate the person with. It’s your convenience.

Write down the names in a diary which you can’t memorize – And last and final method is to keep note of his names and details, may be a short bio or your meeting. If all the above tricks didn’t work for you, then you can try this final one.
