Vinay Virmani is a Canadian actor and screenwriter based in Canada. He got into the film world with the English movie, Breakaway (2011), which he scripted and directed. He also played the lead role opposite Camilla Belle. After receiving negative reviews, he bounced back with Dr. Cabbie (2014), which was a major hit in Canada. His third movie – The Steps (2015) was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival 2015. He also wrote screenplays and acted in these films. The Steps marked his debut as a film producer.

Vinay Virmani was born in 1985 in Brampton, Ontario. His father Ajay Virmani is an Indo-Canadian businessman, who has produced a few films as well. He reached Canada in 1975 with an Economics degree and dabbled with different professions before starting his own company in 1989. Vinay graduated from York University. He acting course from Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute in New York before foraying into films. He appeared in a Canadian short film in 2008. In 2011 he released his first movie, Breakaway in three languages. The movie was based on Indian sport hockey. In 2013 he marked his Bollywood debut as an actor through David.

1. His debut film Breakaway was co-produced by Akshay Kumar and was released in English, Hindi and Punjabi languages. It was Kumar’s first international project as a producer.

2. His second film, Dr. Cabbie – a rom-com was co-produced by Salman Khan.

3. Katrina Kaif’s sister Isabel Kaif played a brief role in his highly acclaimed movie – Dr. Cabbie.

4. His movie Breakaway featured an RDB song “Shera Di Kaum“, and Akshay Kumar appeared in this chartbuster song.

5. In 2013, he played a supporting role in Vikram starrer bilingual – David. He was not a part of its Tamil version.
