Kakkayirachi Thoran recipe

Ingredients for Kakkayirachi Thoran (Clam Thoran):

  1. Kakkayirachi (Clam/Oyster) – 2 cups
  2. Turmeric powder – ¼ small spoon
    Salt – For taste
  3. Coconut grated – 1 cup
    Turmeric powder – ¼ small spoon
    Chilli powder – ½ small spoon
    Curry leaves – For preparation
    Salt – For taste
  4. Coconut oil – 3 big spoons
  5. Mustard – ½ small spoon
  6. Curry leaves – For preparation
  7. Onions – 1 big, chopped
    Green chillies – 2, chopped
  8. Ginger – 1 small piece, crushed
    Garlic – 4 cloves, crushed

How to prepare Kakkayirachi Thoran (Clam Thoran)?

  1. Cook clams, adding ingredients no: 2 and keep aside.
  2. Blend well ingredients no: 3 in a mixer to prepare the gravy.
  3. Heat oil in a pan, and sputter mustard and curry leaves.
  4. Sauté ingredients no: 7, followed by ingredients no: 8, until the bad odour leaves.
  5. Add coconut gravy and sauté for a few minutes.
  6. Add cooked clams and cook for 5 minutes on low flame with the lid closed.
  7. If needed, sprinkle a few drops of water.
  8. After 5 minutes, open the lid and stir well.
  9. Water content should be fully absorbed.
