This dish is called Thenga Saadam in Tamil Nadu. It’s a variety of rice recipes in which coconut is added as one of the key ingredients. And here is its recipe.

Thenga Saadam - Tamil cuisine

Ingredients for Coconut Rice:

1. Coconut oil – 3 big spoons

2. Urud daal (black gram daal) – 1 big spoon

3. Mustard – 1 small spoon

4. Red chillies – 6

    Asafoetida powder – ½ small spoon

5. Coconut grated- ½ cup

6. Ponni rice cooked – 3 cups

7. Salt – For taste

How to prepare Coconut Rice?

1. Heat oil and sauté urad daal.

2. Sputter mustard seeds.

3. Add red chillies and asafoetida powder, and mix well.

4. Add grated coconut and sauté till it turns light red.

5. Add cooked rice and salt, and mix well.

6. Serve your coconut rice hot.
