Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam is a Telugu filmmaker best known for the 2016 film Pelli Choopulu, which received two national awards. He has also made brief appearances in a few movies since 2018. He started his film journey by directing a few short films since 2011, and Pelli Choopulu was his debut film, which opened to highly positive reviews. In 2018, he released his second film Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi, which also emerged as a box office hit.

Tharun Bhascker Dhaassyam was born in the year 1988 in Waddepally, Warangal, present-day Telangana. His mother, Geetha Bhaskar, is a small-time actress in Telugu films, while his father, Uday Bhaskar, is an engineer. His childhood days were spent in Marredpally in Hyderabad, and later he pursued his engineering degree from Swami Vivekananda Institute of Technology. But it was the film field that fascinated him most, and to pursue a career in filmmaking, he enrolled at New York Film Academy.
After returning to India, he made his first short film, The Journey, in 2011, followed by Anukokunda and Sainma. He turned a full-fledged filmmaker with Pelli Choopulu in 2016, which bagged the National Film Award for Best regional film in Telugu as well as for Best Screenplay – Dialogues category. The rom-com hit the right chord with young audiences. Now he is experimenting with his acting skills, and has appeared in Mahanati, Sammohanam, and Falaknuma Das.
