Shivadam Shivanamam Song from Mazhavillu – Lyrics in English with Translation
Aaaa…Aaaaa…Aaaaa…Aaaa
Shivadam shivanaamam sreepaarvatheeshwara naamam
Shivadam shivanaamam sreepaarvatheeshwara naamam
Love of Lord Shiva, Name of Shiva,
The name of Lord of Parvati
Love of Lord Shiva, Name of Shiva,
The name of Lord of Parvati
Shubhadam…shivacharitham…paapaharam
Nandimridanganinaadatharangitha kailaasehwaranaamam
Auspicious, the stories of Shiva, the destroyer of sins.
The name of the Lord of Kailas,
The place where Nandi plays mridangam & its sound echoes
Shivadam shivanaamam sreepaarvatheeshwaranaamam
Shivadam shivanaamam sreepaarvatheeshwaranaamam (M)
Love of Lord Shiva, Name of Shiva,
The name of Lord of Parvati
Love of Lord Shiva, Name of Shiva,
The name of Lord of Parvati
Sabhalamee jeevitham premapoornnam
Paarvatheelola nin karunayaale
This life has attained salvation through love,
Due to your blessings, hey Parvati with soft heart
Sabhalamee jeevitham premapoornnam
Paarvatheelola nin karunayaale
This life has attained salvation, complete with love,
With your blessings, hey Parvati with soft heart
Thirujadaykkullililakiyunarunnu
Lokadhaathriyaam shivaganga
Inside the royal hair lock,
Is dancing, the mother of earth, Shiva Ganga
Layamunarthunnu swaramuyarthunnu
Is increasing the tempo,
Is increasing the notes
Thudiykkumushassil nabhassiluyarnnu
Is rising from the sky, during the vibrant dawn
Mrigamadathilakitha surajanamakhilam
Shivadamamruthanadana dhirana thillaanaa…
Aaaa…Aaaaa…Aaaaa…Aaaa (M)
Like a celestial body
Your thillana has an attribute of elixir
Shivadam shivanaamam sreepaarvatheeshwaranaamam
Shivadam shivanaamam sreepaarvatheeshwaranaamam (M)
Love of Lord Shiva, Name of Shiva,
The name of Lord of Parvati
Love of Lord Shiva, Name of Shiva,
The name of Lord of Parvati
Saphalamaam jeevitham raagalolam
Aaaa…Aaaaa…Aaaaa
The life that attained salvation is filled with ragas
Saphalamaam jeevitham raagalolam
The life that attained salvation is filled with ragas
Kaavyakallolinee theerabhoovil
On the earth’s shores of poetic river with waves
Hridayamunmaada lahari nukarunnu
Tharalamuyarunnu thillaana
My heart gets filled with ecstasy
With your slowly rising thillana
Pranayakallolamilaki marayunnu
The waves of love, rise and fall (disappear)
Vasantha sugandha tharanga rajaniyil
During the aromatic, spring and wavy night
Kavithakalozhukum madhabharanimikalil
In the intoxicated eyes through which poems flow
Shivadamamruthanadana dhirana thillaanaa…
Aaaa…Aaaaa…Aaaaa…Aaaa (F)
And the love of Shiva
And it has the attribute of elixir
As you dance your thillana
Shivadam shivanaamam sreepaarvatheeshwaranaamam
Shivadam shivanaamam sreepaarvatheeshwaranaamam
Love of Lord Shiva, Name of Shiva,
The name of Lord of Parvati
Love of Lord Shiva, Name of Shiva,
The name of Lord of Parvati
Shubhadam…shivacharitham paapaharam
Nandimridangani naadatharangitha kailaasehwaranaamam
Auspicious, the stories of Shiva, the destroyer of sins
The name of the Lord of Kailas,
The place where Nandi plays mridangam & its sound echoes
Shivadam shivanaamam sreepaarvatheeshwaranaamam
Shivadam shivanaamam sreepaarvatheeshwaranaamam (M/F)
Aaaa…Aaaaa…Aaaaa…Aaaa (F)
Love of Lord Shiva, Name of Shiva,
The name of Lord of Parvati
Love of Lord Shiva, Name of Shiva,
The name of Lord of Parvati
End note: Too tough song to translate because of dominance of Sanskrit.
Thillana (Tillana) is a rhythmic piece in Carnatic music that is generally performed at the end of a music concert or towards the end of Bharatnatyam performance, a southern dance art form. It’s also found in several Indian classical dance forms.
There is one line “Pranayakallolamilakimarayunnu” in Chithra’s voice in second stanza. This single word can be split as “Pranaya kallolam ilaki marayunnu”. I have a doubt. Is it “ilaki marayunnu” or “ilaki mariyunnu”? Looks like the second word is apt in the context, when the reference is given for rising waves. How can loves waves rise and disappear? Instead, it should be ‘rise of ecstasy’. Not sure if it was an error happened during song recording. Your feedback please.
