Ponnushasennum Song from Meghamalhar – Lyrics in English with Translation

Ponnushasennum neeraduvan varumee
Saundarya theerdha kadavil (Female)
On this holy river bank,
Where the golden twilight (morning)
Comes to take a bath every day,
Ponnushasennum neeraduvan varumee
Saundarya theerdha kadavil (Male)
On this holy river bank,
Where the golden twilight (morning)
Comes to take a bath every day,
Nashta smrithikalam marivillin
Varnna pottukal thedi naam vannu (Female)
Searching the colourful spots of
Our lost rainbow memories,
We came back once again
Onnu pinangiyinangum
Nin kannil kinavukal pookkum
Dreams will blossom in your eyes,
Which fight once & then become friendly
Onnu pinangiyinangum
Nin kannil kinavukal pookkum (Male)
Dreams will blossom in your eyes,
Which fight once & then become friendly
Poombularkani poleyetho perariya pookal (Female)
Some flowers whose names unknown
Namme thiricharinhenno
Chira bandhuramee sneha bandham (Male)
Did they recognize both of us?
Also, our everlasting love bond? (When we revisited)
Namme thiricharinhenno
Chira bandhuramee sneha bandham (Female)
Did they recognize both of us?
Also, our everlasting love bond?
Ponnushasennum neeraduvan varumee
Saundarya theerdha kadavil (Male/Female)
On this holy river bank,
Where the golden twilight (morning)
Comes to take a bath every day…
Theerathadiyum shanghil
Nin peru kori varachu njaan
In the shank which came to shore,
I draw your name
Theerathadiyum shanghil
Nin peru kori varachu njaan (Female)
In the shank which came to shore,
I draw your name
Shanghu korthoru mala ninne njaan aniyikumbol (Male)
While I adore u with a chain,
Full of shanks,
Janmangalkkappurathengo oru
Chembakam pookum sughandham (Female)
Perfume of a blossoming champak,
Beyond many births
Janmangalkkappurathengo oru
Chembakam pookum sughandham (Male)
Perfume of a blossoming champak,
Beyond many births
Ponnushasennum neeraduvan varumee
Saundarya theerdha kadavil (Female)
On this holy river bank,
Where the golden twilight (morning)
Comes to take a bath every day
Ponnushasennum neeraduvan varumee
Saundarya theerdha kadavil (Male)
On this holy river bank,
Where the golden twilight (morning)
Comes to take a bath every day
Nashta smrithikalam marivillin
Varnna pottukal thedi naam vannu (Male/Female)
Searching the colourful spots of
Our lost rainbow memories,
We came back once again
Song Trivia
The movie, Meghamalhar, directed by Kamal, explores the unrequited love of two childhood friends who were separated by destiny. Years later, when both meet as strangers, how the story unfolds gives a nostalgic feel to many. Meghamalhar is not an original story. The movie plot is inspired by the 1945 British movie, Brief Encounter. Yet Kamal managed to give a Malayali touch to its presentation. The title is derived from the Hindustani classical raga, Megh Malhar, which is believed to bring rain in the area where it is sung.
The movie starred the real-life couple Biju Menon and Samyuktha Varma, who were dating at the time. All the songs penned by O. N. V. Kurup and composed by Ramesh Narayan are memorable. Composer Ramesh Narayan is best known for using Hindustani music in Malayalam cinema, which is very rare. Magrib was his debut work as a composer, and it took 6 years for his second work, Garshom. Both movies starred Murali in the lead role. He contributed many memorable songs to Malayalis. His best albums are Meghamalhar, Ratri Mazha, Manjadikuru, Adaminte Makan Abu, Ennu Ninte Moideen etc. Also read the lyrics and translation of Parayan Maranna Paribhavangal song, composed by Narayan.
