Taj Noor – Music composer and Background scorer of Tamil cinema

Taj Noor is a well-known music composer and background scorer of Tamil movies. He joined film industry as an assistant in 1993, worked under A. R. Rahman in the second half of 1990s and after many years he turned an independent composer in 2010. Vamsam in 2010 was his first released film, which included the popular track, “Marudhani Poovumele“. Aayiram Muthangaludan Thenmozhi was his first signed project which got delayed.

Taj Noor was born into a family of intellectuals in the town of Salem in Tamil Nadu. His father has served as district collector. Yet he chose a career entirely different from administration, that’s music. He has four elder siblings. His schooling and graduation were completed in Salem. He joined film industry in 1993. He joined A. R. Rahman’s team in 1996 and his task was to backup his musical projects when IT technology was not so advanced. Since 2010 he composed music and background score for many films, and most of his early projects till 2014 got shelved or unreleased. Gnana Kirukkan, Katham Katham, Nayyapudai, Eththan, Strawberry etc are some of his film releases.

Taj Noor – Some interesting and less-known facts

1. His father Usman Ali Khan was a district collector of Salem.

2. Aayiram Muthangaludan Thenmozhi was the first film for which he composed a solo track. But the movie got delayed for two years. Vamsam and Eththan got released prior to it.

3. He composed the background score of the segment ‘Anamika’ for 2018 horror anthology film, 6 Athiyayam.

4. He is married to Rahila Begum and has three children.

5. He has done one music album ‘Thai Paal’ crooned by fifteen singers of Kollywood.

6. He has assisted A. R. Rahman for long 14 years before he turned an independent composer in 2010. Ever since digital technology has become a part of Indian music industry, he worked with Rahman, creating backup for his tunes.

7. While working with Rahman for Dil Se, they had a loss of data due to sudden loss of power. Taj Noor believes that it’s Rahman’s faith in god which helped them to retrieve the finished work from disk, nothing short of a miracle.
